Though some information has snuck out (those crafty Bothans!) ahead of official sources, Disney and Lucasfilm have been doing their level best not to say too much about Star Wars spin-off TV series The Mandalorian. Today, however, brought a big ol' studio-sanctioned info dump, confirming some details already out there and adding intriguing wrinkles such as the casting of Giancarlo Esposito, Carl Weathers and Werner – yes, really – Herzog.

Under the aegis of an "announcement," the official Wars site lists Pedro Pascal as the star, playing the titular Mandalorian, a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy. Also mentioned are the previously-leaked Gina Carano and Nick Nolte, with new names Emily Swallow and Omid Abtahi.

Set in the time between the fall of the Empire in Return Of The Jedi and the rise of the First Order in The Force Awakens, The Mandalorian will peek into unexplored corners of that galaxy far, fat away. "We’re having a great time working with this incredibly talented group and excited for everyone to see what we’re up to," says executive producer Jon Favreau. He's overseen the writing, with the directing pool including Dave Filoni, Taika Waititi and Bryce Dallas Howard.

Scheduled to start running on the Disney+ streaming service next year, the show has been shooting for a while.
