They've been teasing us for years with the prospect of Ghostbusters III, but even though none of the main cast (well, Bill Murray anyway) can quite be bothered with that, the team behind the funniest action-comedy of the 1980s to employ big special effects is returning - in computer game form.
Vivendi has licenced the rights to the story, with all the cast onboard to provide voices and likenesses. And when we say 'all', we mean 'not all but most'. Not just Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson have signed up, but also William Atherton (the wonderfully odious Walter Peck), Brian Doyle Murray (who played the psychiatrist in the sequel and is the brother of Bill) and Annie Potts (the receptionist, Janine). Admittedly, that leaves out Sigourney Weaver and Rick Moranis, but maybe they'll sign up later. We hope.
Aykroyd and Ramis are writing the story for the game, set in 1990s New York after the events of Ghostbusters II but during another ghostly invasion, and it's due for release next autumn as the first in a possible franchise - in a similar vein to the Scarface game released by the same publishers last year.
So whady'all reckon? Would you rather see Ghostbusters III? Is this an acceptable substitute? And is it really Ghostbusters without the Gate Keeper and the Key Master?
