Nostalgia hangs heavy over the new trailer for Ghostbusters: Afterlife. It is, after all, a direct continuation of the saga started in 1984 with the original and followed in 1989 with the sequel, made by Jason Reitman, son of Ivan, who directed the original pair. But from the looks of this, it'll also be forging its own path.

The story picks up with Callie (Carrie Coon), trying to make a new start for her family (McKenna Grace's Phoebe and Finn Wolfhard's Trevor) by moving to a small town in the middle of nowhere, where her father (it's still not explicitly stated, but it's clearly Harold Ramis' Egon Spengler) had a farmhouse.

So why here? Turns out this unassuming slice of Americana hides a dark secret, and supernatural forces are swirling. So the kids, along with teacher (and Ghostbusters fan) Mr. Grooberson (Paul Rudd) investigate... Cue mini Stay Pufts, an appearance from new ghost Muncher and plenty of chaos.

This new trailer also features some old faces – or at least a face and an arm, with Annie Potts' Janine in person and the footage wrapping up with a phone call taken at Ray's Occult Books by a very familiar figure...

Ghostbusters: Afterlife will be in UK cinemas on 11 November.
