The latest repercussions of the Fox/Disney merger and their effects on the Marvel Universe have been felt at US streaming service Hulu. The companies have announced that a Ghost Rider show is headed to the platform, alongside a new series focusing on the Helstrom comicbook.
Don't go expecting Nic Cage to show up on your telly all wide-eyed and on fire; the Ghost Rider series will continue the character as played on Agents Of SHIELD by Gabriel Luna for the first time in 2016. He'll be back as Robbie Reyes, a man consumed by hellfire and supernaturally bound to a demon. Reyes lives on the Texas/Mexico border and when he unleashes the Rider, Robbie brings vengeance for the innocents he encounters, but struggles to control the power he wields. Ingrid Escajeda will serve as showrunner and executive producer.
Helstrom on the other hand, follows Daimon and Ana Helstrom, who are the son and daughter of a mysterious and powerful serial killer. The siblings have a complicated dynamic as they track down the terrorizing worst of humanity – each with their attitude and skills. Paul Zbyszewski is the showrunner for that one, with Marvel’s TV boss Jeph Loeb overseeing both shows. The new series would have been a strange fit on the Disney+ streaming service despite their Marvel links, so Hulu feels like a more natural home. Even if they are sharing space with the more lighthearted likes of Runaways and the recently announced batch of animated series.
