A bit of not-quite-news this morning, but of interest none the less, is the word from New York Magazine's Vulture blog is that Ghost Rider 2 may be moving forward even without Nicolas Cage. Yes, somebody's working on a Ghost Rider 2. You may not have demanded it, but the original made $270m worldwide so it was pretty much inevitable.
Columbia made the first film back in 2007, but if they don't put the sequel into production by this November, the rights revert back to Marvel (now owned by Disney), so there's something of an incentive to get a move on with the film. Flash Forward writers Scott Gimple and Seth Hoffman have apparently just finished a new draft of the script with David S. Goyer overseeing, and the studio's apparently working on a shortlist of directors (although it's one that does not include original director Mark Steven Johnson).
Much of the original film's success is probably tied to Cage's star power (who'd heard of Ghost Rider before the film was announced, eh?) but since he's tied up with promotion duties on The Sorceror's Apprentice and may be involved in a third **National Treasure **film there's a big question mark over whether he'd be able to start by November 14.
So can Ghost Rider redeem himself? And is Cage's involvement in any sequel even a good idea? Your thoughts please.
