What were you expecting as a follow-up from Robert Mark Kamen, the man who wrote Liam Neeson punch-fest Taken? A warm romantic comedy about single elderly ladies seeking the right man to make their Horlicks? Think again, suckers! He's back with an action pitch called Vengeance.
CBS Films has snapped up the rights to Kamen's latest, which will very much keep the spirit of Taken.
"Basically, it's a contemporary revenge love story -- what happens when violence meets love," Kamen tells Variety. "The main characters are 20 and Italian, and there are themes that echo films like The Godfather.
"It's about family loyalty and how much someone owes their family and the past. It's not set in the gangster milieu but just outside it." What, with its face pressed up against it, like a Dickensian orphan at the bakery window?
And fans of Liam Neeson getting medieval on anyone who messes with his family can take heart - Kamen also took the time to assure the world that a sequel to Taken will be smashing into all of us as soon as Neeson and his particular set of skills are available to shoot. And kick. And choke. And...
