CHUD.com is reporting that the upcoming Wolverine spin-off could be about to add some more grizzled manliness to its cast in the shape of Gerard Butler. That would make this officially 2008's hairiest movie, aside from Where The Wild Things Are.
Butler is apparently in talks to play the villain, Creed, a man who will eventually become Sabretooth, Wolvie's mortal enemy. Butler's got a bit of space in his schedule, since Escape From New York fell apart, so this could be a good option for him. Hell, he's easily got the physicality and demeanor to have played Wolverine, if Hugh Jackman hadn't got there first, so he's a fine choice for the character's evil opposite.
The good people of CHUD are also reporting that Wolverine director Gavin Hood wants Natalie Portman for the currently undefined role of Kayla and that the film is also likely to feature the character Deadpool. In the comic books Deadpool originated in Weapon X, where Wolverine became the angry adamantium-clawed, self-healing furball we all know and love. A slightly cracked mercenary, Deadpool would likely serve as the film's comic relief and current rumours are picking Ryan Reynolds (now out of the running for Justice League's Flash) for the role.
N.B. If all this casting comes off, you will all have to queue up behind our own Helen O'Hara on release day. Try to avoid the puddle of drool.
