There may be quibbles as to their quality, but the action thriller genre has been good to Gerard Butler, and he's sticking with it for another movie. The actor will lead new pic Kandahar.
It also marks another team-up between Butler and director Ric Roman Waugh, who worked with the actor on Angel Has Fallen and the upcoming Greenland. Waugh wrote the new film with former military intelligence officer Mitchell LaFortune and it'll see Butler as Tom Harris, an undercover CIA operative working in the Middle East. An intelligence leak dangerously exposes his classified mission and reveals his covert identity. Stuck in the heart of hostile territory, Harris and his translator must fight their way out of the desert to an extraction point in Kandahar, Afghanistan, while eluding the elite special forces hunting them...
LaFortune wrote the original version of the script based on his experiences in at the Defense Intelligence Agency in Afghanistan at the time of the Snowden leaks, and production company Thunder Road snapped it up in 2016. So you know it'll be layered with real detail and accu... Oh, who are we kidding? It'll be stuffed full of OTT action.
