New technology can be a great thing, but what happens when it's sabotaged? That's the central question of Geostorm, except for perhaps, "can Gerard Butler punch a hurricane?" Check out the new trailer for the thriller.

Dean Devlin was originally in the director's chair here (before Danny Cannon was drafted in to take over re-shoots) digging into his past as a master of disaster working alongside Roland Emmerich in their heyday. Butler plays scientist Jake, who finds there are problems with the network of satellites that make sure Earth is free from climate-based natural disasters.

When they go badly wrong and start causing real problems, Jake and equally smart brother Max (Jim Sturgess) discover that's no accident, and so the race is on to protect the president of the USA (Andy Garcia) and the world from the impact.

Geostorm will rain on all of our parades from 20 October.
