Given that most movie news these days is of the depressing "delayed" or "shut down" variety, it's nice to see that, even if the work has to happen remotely, the business of putting films together continues. And the good news is even more exciting when a small nugget at the end of a Variety story mentions that George Miller is looking at actors for his planned Mad Max spin-off, Furiosa, with Anya Taylor-Joy reportedly under consideration.
At the very least, Taylor-Joy has auditioned via Skype for the legendary director, an occasional option that has quickly become the new normal for filmmakers and actors looking to work together.
Miller has been developing a few ideas for another Max film, with at least one about the titular main character (played by Tom Hardy in Fury Road) and Charlize Theron's Furiosa, who was such a breakout part of that last outing. But then, he's also been building up to make Three Thousand Years Of Longing, with Idris Elba and Tilda Swinton on board to star. That one, like most movies right now, is in limbo awaiting the world's emergence from the Corona-crucible (and Elba's schedule in particular will no doubt be impacted by his contracting the virus, with our wishes for a continued speedy recovery).
As for Furiosa, the story also mentions Miller's hope to kick that one off shooting in 2021. Our fingers are well and truly crossed. Also, washed. And then crossed again.
