While he's currently busy working on a TV adaptation of Catch-22, George Clooney has one eye on potential new film directing jobs. He's now in early talks to handle a sci-fi thriller called Echo.

20th Century Fox nabbed this one, which comes from Shawn Levy and his 21 Laps company. Echo, written by Christopher MacBride, focuses on a CIA drone co-ordinator who begins to doubt his own mind when he tries to figure out whether his wife is still who she claims to be. Has she been replaced? Is he just paranoid? As he digs into his concerns, his psychological crisis deepens.

Though the IMDB lists MacBride as the director, it appears Fox and the producers are after a bigger name to make the movie. And the movie's own fate will depend on Fox's future as Disney and Comcast compete to acquire its assets.
