UPDATE! Apple has won the scramble to buy this one, and promising that it'll be in cinemas before it lands on AppleTV+.
Movies often begin as "packages", some combination of actors, directors and writers/scripts, which have sometimes have studios salivating at the prospect of picking it up. When that package includes George Clooney, Brad Pitt and Spider-Man: Far From Home director Jon Watts, you can imagine the bidding war.
The film doesn't have an announced title yet, but Watts will write and direct, while Clooney and Pitt will produce and star. As for the story, all The Hollywood Reporter has been able to dig up is that it'll be a thriller that follows two lone wolf fixers assigned to the same job.
Sony, Lionsgate, Apple, Netflix, Amazon, Annapurna, Universal, MGM, and Warner Bros. are all said to be interested, so it sounds like it'll come down to who the trio want to work with and who offers the best deal.
Clooney's latest directing gig, The Tender Bar, has just been added to the BFI London Film Festival lineup for this year, while Pitt has action thriller Bullet Train on the way. Watts' latest Spider-outing, Spider-Man: No Way Home, will be out on 17 December.
