Filming is about to kick off with Brie Larson as the titular lead, but Captain Marvel still has room for more cast members. Humans' Gemma Chan is playing Minn-Erva in the film.
The movie, with Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck directing, finds Larson as Carol Danvers, a skilled test pilot whose DNA is melded with that of Kree warrior Mar-Vell. Subsequently, she gains powers such as flight, enhanced strength, damage resistance and the ability to absorb and re-channel energy. Set in the 1990s, the film will see Danvers going up against the evil, shape-changing Skrulls.
Chan's Minn-Erva is listed in the Marvel Comics database as a Kree geneticist and spy, who has a complicated history with at least one variation of the Captain Marvel character. Of course, here's where we deploy the disclaimer that the film plots usually end up diverging from the printed history, and Minn-Erva's story could be quite different from what has been established, though chances are she'll have similar powers to our hero.
Jude Law, Samuel L. Jackson and Ben Mendelsohn are part of the cast for the future MCU entry, which currently has a UK release date of 8 March 2019. Chan has roles in Mary Queen Of Scots and Crazy Rich Asians, both due here this year.
