Following in the tradition of Japanese and some fellow European directors, French/Goergian director Gela Babluani is upping stumps to the States to shoot a remake of his own film, 13 (Tzameti).
It’ll be an English-language version of the thriller, which revolves around a secret society of gamblers who bet on human lives. With the title chopped to just 13, the movie will shoot somewhere in the US – current hot favourite locations are Chicago and Baltimore – early next year.
And unlike the original, which muddied the time and place, the new version will definitely be set in modern-day America. Babluani is already hard at work on a translated script draft with American writer Gregory Prusse.
"The movie is about a game. So the rules of the game will essentially stay the same. But I really want to introduce new characters and situations," Babluani told Variety.
