Back before he was known for signing in cars and hosting a late night talk show, James Corden – along with writing/performing partner Ruth Jones – made a name by scripting romantic comedy drama series Gavin & Stacey, about an unlikely couple, which became a big hit back in 2007. The show, which ran for three series and a couple of specials, has been gone from our screens for a decade as the cast moved onto other things, but they'll be back this Christmas.
"Over the last ten years we’ve talked a lot about Gavin and Stacey – where they might be today and what their lives might look like," Corden and Jones say in a statement. "And so, in secret we took the plunge and wrote this one hour special. We’ve loved revisiting Barry and Essex again and bringing the characters back together has been a joy. We’re so excited to get the chance to work with our fabulous cast and crew once more and to give fans of the show a festive treat this Christmas. Thank you BBC for helping to make this happen."
Corden took to Twitter to show off the script for the special.
Mathew Horne and Joanna Page will return as the title duo alongside Corden, Jones and the other and the supporting cast including Rob Brydon, Larry Lamb, Melanie Walters and Alison Steadman. Christmas Day? Tidy.
