Gary Winick Finds Letters To Juliet

Believe it or not, there are lovelorn people all over the world who write to Juliet Capulet, the star-crossed female half of William Shakespeare’s most famous couple. Despite her obviously fictional nature, she’s been offering advice and words of comfort for years thanks to a group of volunteers in fair Verona, where they write the replies.

The fake balcony residents are the subject of Lise and Ceil Friedman’s book Letters To Juliet, which hits shelves in the States this week, compiling the notes that have been written over the years. And it’s been nabbed by Summit Entertainment for 13 Going On 30 director Gary Winick who is now looking for a writer to write a modern-day romance based around the tales of woe and heartbreak.

To any Hollywood exec reading this, we have Shakespeare’s e-mail address. We bet he’d be perfect.
