Book Of Eli’s Gary Oldman has signed on to provide a voice for the next instalment of the Kung Fu Panda franchise that DreamWorks Animation will release next year.
Subtitled The Kaboom Of Doom, the sequel will take up Po (Jack Black)’s story as he searches for other pandas and runs afoul of a group of bandits. Oldman’s tonsil talents will be used for a feathered character named Peacock, who will help our hero track down the bad guys, but then turns out to be more than he claims.
The most recent news on the movie was the unexpected development that Charlie Kaufman had been brought in for a couple of weeks’ worth of script tweaks, which had us wondering just what he’ll bring to the film.
Oldman, meanwhile, has a history with ‘toons - only last year, he voiced a character in Planet 51 and stepped into a performance capture suit to play multiple roles in A Christmas Carol.
We’ll be watching Kaboom Of Doom next June. Yes, we’re aware of the rhyme. No, we’re not apologising.
