Bran having the entire history of Westeros in his head might be a pretty impressive feat – but have you heard the legend of Bryan Cogman? The Game Of Thrones writer’s fantasy mind-palace isn’t just inhabited by Starks, Lannisters, Targaryens, and all that lot. No, he’s about to make room for Middle-earth – having signed up to help Amazon out with its upcomingLord Of The Ringsseries.

According to Variety, the writer is going to consult on the show, helping out showrunners JD Payne and Patrick McKay as they build a serialised narrative set in JRR Tolkien’s world of hobbits, elves, and all-powerful jewellery. All we know at the moment is that the Amazon series will be set before the events of Lord Or The Rings and The Hobbit, and the world map will look a little like this:

Cogman knows a thing or two about writing fantasy TV, having helped script Game Of Thrones right from the beginning. He contributed episodes to every season of HBO’s beloved epic – most recently penning ‘A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms’ in Season 8 (aka, the episode before the Battle of Winterfell, and perhaps one of the most universally loved instalments of the divisive final season). Elsewhere, he’s also penned the live-action Sword In The Stone film adaptation which is set to arrive on Disney+.

It's still unclear when Amazon's Rings show will appear – but if they're hoping to make the next Game Of Thrones, hiring Cogman is certainly the way to go about that.
