There are only six episodes left of Game Of Thrones – when it returns next month for its eighth and final season, it will be the series’ shortest run. But with so much of the story still to wrap up, reports began during Season 8’s production that most of the individual episodes would clock in near the 90-minute mark. Six mini-movies, if you will, to send off Westeros’ finest. Well, it turns out that isn’t quite the case – but there will be a fair few longer episodes in Game Of Thrones' final run.
HBO has confirmed the ‘estimated’ episode lengths of all six final instalments – and they come in as follows:
Episode 1 – 54 minutes
Episode 2 – 58 minutes
Episode 3 – 82 minutes
Episode 4 – 78 minutes
Episode 5 – 80 minutes
Episode 6 – 80 minutes
That means just the opening two episodes will come in at the usual one-hour mark, with the final four chunks receiving boosted runtimes. Of course, the most important thing here is that the episodes are the right length – enough for character moments, those epic battles we’re all waiting for, and without bulk for the sake of bulk. Considering the number of players still on the board, and the massive army of the dead set to lay waste to them all, expect these extended episodes to be jam-packed and pacy. The final season begins on 14 April, with the final ever episode arriving on 19 May. Then, our watch will be ended.
