The of Game Of Thrones as we know it has passed, but because HBO can't actually let go of one of its biggest success stories, a number of spin-off shows have been in development. And one of them, a prequel show, has now quietly started shooting, according to Entertainment Weekly.

With Kingsman's Jane Goldman running the show based on an idea she formulated alongside GOT novelist George RR Martin, the new series is set roughly 5,000 years before the events chronicled in the original show. Which means, as Martin has said, "There’s no King’s Landing. There’s no Iron Throne. There are no Targaryens — Valyria has hardly begun to rise yet with its dragons and the great empire that it built. We’re dealing with a different and older world and hopefully that will be part of the fun of the series." He's said on his blog that the new show will be called The Long Night, though there has been no official announcement about that, and we're still waiting to get actual details beyond casting.

Naomi Watts leads the cast, which also features Naomi Ackie, Denise Gough, Miranda Richardson, Josh Whitehouse, Jamie Campbell Bower, Sheila Atim, Ivanno Jeremiah, Alex Sharp and Toby Regbo. Whatever the show ends up being called, the pilot is currently filming in Belfast, where Thrones was based for years. HBO has still yet to decide whether it'll go ahead with a full series, and the show naturally has no confirmed air date. We wouldn't expect to see anything before late 2020 or early 2021 at the earliest. But at least we know it's actually in production, with director SJ Clarkson calling the shots...
