Winter might have sped up its advance just a little in Game Of Thrones as it reaches its endgame... of thrones. But casting for the prequel series is now happening at a speed closer to that of a swiftly soaring dragon. Josh Whitehouse is the latest actor cast in the new show.

He joins Naomi Watts, who was announced just yesterday. And while we learned a tiny snippet about Watts' character, the Poldark actor's role is being kept locked up tight. Which of course, hasn't stopped speculation that he's a Stark.

Based on an idea by Thrones novelist/overlord George RR Martin, the show has been turned into a working concept by Jane Goldman, who will be steering it going forward. Set thousands of years before the stories now unfolding, it chronicles the world’s descent from the golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour. And only one thing is for sure: from the horrifying secrets of Westeros’ history to the true origin of the White Walkers, the mysteries of the East to the Starks of legend... It’s not the story we think we know. We might, however, be closer to knowing what the show could be called, as Martin mentioned Watts' casting on his blog, referring to The Long Night. Which could well just be a placeholder title, but certainly seems fitting for a GOT spin-off.

Whitehouse, who has also been seen in Northern Soul and Modern Life Is Rubbish, has musical comedy romance adaptation Valley Girl and The Happy Worker headed towards screens.
