If you're seeking complexity in your superhero TV, Marvel's Inhumans could very well be the answer, a point supported by the casting of Iwan Rheon in the role of Maximus.

As he's previously proven on shows like Misfits, and, particularly, Game Of Thrones (where he played Ramsay Bolton), complicated is his comfort zone. "The characters I tend to play are a little more intresting than the standard heroes," Rheon recently mused. "Romantic leads can be a little more straightforward, I guess. But it just seems to be the parts I get; I don't know what that says about me. I enjoy interesting characters and interesting people, I suppose."

Inhumans are a race of transformed humans genetically engineered by the Kree, who embedded them with the ability to acquire superhuman abilities. The focus of the series is on the Inhuman royal family, led by Black Bolt. Marvel describes the Maximus character as being charming, clever and devoted to his people, particularly his brother, Black Bolt, though he does yearn to wear the crown — which should embody that level of complexity we've been talking about.

Showrunner/executive producer Scott Buck (who holds the same position on Netflix's Iron Fist), offers, "Maximus is a complex character. Likable, charming, tragic and villainous all in the same moment, and I’m very excited to have someone of Iwan’s considerable talent.”

Executive producer Jeph Loeb adds that the actor's proven record of bringing a roguish charm, while still conveying a sense of danger about him, "were all different sides we needed to bring the character to life."

There's a lot that's unique about Inhumans, including the show's planned roll out. This September the first two episodes will be presented on IMAX screens for two weeks, followed by the show's debut on television. Reportedly there will be some differences between what will be shown in cinemas compared to TV.
