After eight seasons, it’s all come to this – Winter is here, the long night is threatening to make a comeback, and Jon Snow still knows nothing. Game of Thrones is due to wrap up next year, and now we’ve got a better idea of exactly when we’ll be watching it. HBO has confirmed that Season 8 will being airing in April 2019 – continuing the show’s traditional April launch, after switching to a slightly delayed summer rollout for Season 7 in 2017.
The news comes from an official new trailer – one that doesn’t reveal any new footage, but gives a welcome reminder of some of the show’s biggest moments so far. Which, when you're talking about Game of Thrones, means very big moments.
The final season is set to consist of six episodes that will wrap up this chapter of George R.R. Martin’s fantasy saga – and there's plenty of story still to be told. The Night King and his army have breached the wall, Cersei is scheming to turn against her fellow humans, and Jon Snow doesn’t yet know that he’s actually a legitimate Targaryen with his own claim to the Iron Throne.
Here’s everything we know about Season 8 so far – and in the meantime, we’ll be heading to that massive library in the Citadel with all the Maesters to scrub up on the past seven seasons.
