Game Of Thrones: Fifth Spin-Off Series In Development

Game Of Thrones Season 7 Episode 6

Singularly unwilling to let completely go of the world of Westeros (we can't really blame them), HBO is already considering ideas from writers for four potential Game Of Thrones spin-off series. And now there is a fifth throwing its golden crown in to the ring, conjured by Thrones veteran writer Bryan Cogman.

We don't yet know what the potential show – teased by Thrones novelist George R.R. Martin a few months ago in his blog – might entail, other than it appears to be a prequel to the show's main story, but then HBO and the creative folk are keeping all the details to themselves for now, especially since not all of them are likely to make it to screens.

Thus far, we have Kong: Skull Island's Max Borenstein, Kingsman: The Secret Service's Jane Goldman, Legend's Brian Helgeland and Mad Men veteran Carly Wray all developing possibilities, with Goldman and Wray also collaborating with Martin in some capacity, though he's not planning to do any writing (his schedule's a little full on that front.) Thrones executive producers Dan Weiss and David Benioff will also be attached, but like Martin, don't plan to write anything.

Cogman, one assumes has a slight leg up on the others given his close ties to the show, but it's anyone's guess as to which, if any, will grow to fruition. The parent series will kick off production on Season 8 next month, but the actual air date for that final run of episodes has yet to be announced.
