The clocks have gone back. Winter is coming. And that can only mean one thing. No, not Christmas — news from Westeros, of course! With prequel series House Of The Dragon proving a hit with fans and critics alike (even if not always Thrones author George R. R. Martin), and spin-off show A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms well on its way, stock in Game Of Thrones — five years after HBO's eight season fantasy epic concluded — has scarcely been higher. And now, as THR are reporting, it looks like A Song Of Ice And Fire may be about to be sung on the big screen at long last.
According to THR, "at least one" film set in Martin's world of dragons, politicking, warfare, and White Walkers is in development at Warner Bros. already. And whilst said development is very early stages, with no creatives attached in front of or behind the camera, there's certainly no shortage of avenues for a movie set in Westeros to explore. Just last year, the idea was being floated for a film centred around Targaryen dynasty founder Aegon I, and back along, plans had even been in place to conclude Game Of Thrones with three feature-length movies. So perhaps instead of joining the ever-lengthening list of _Thrones_ian prequels out there or in the works, a potential cinematic offering could explore what comes next for the Starks and the house of Westeros now that The Long Night is over.
Whilst it may be some time yet before we learn exactly what Warner Bros. are cooking up, there's no shortage of projects in the pipeline to satiate fans of Martin's high fantasy saga in the meantime. A third and fourth series of House Of The Dragon are already confirmed at HBO; the aforementioned A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms is due to land sometime in 2025; and — for now at least — Aegon's Conquest, The Sea Snake, and Ten Thousand Ships all remain in development, along with some as-yet-unconfirmed animated offshoots, too. All of which is to say that if the saying is "When you play the Game of Thrones, you win or you die," then Thrones fans just keep on winning. Valar dohaeris!
