Their most recent directorial outing was Game Night, so it somehow makes sense that Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley might be tempted by one of a new film adaptation of one of the most famous tabletop games of all time, Dungeons & Dragons. They're in talks to handle the movie for Paramount and Hasbro.

The first Dungeons & Dragons game was played back when Gary Gygax and Dave Arneson chose to personalize the massive battles of their fantasy wargames with the exploits of individual heroes in the 1970s. This inspiration became the first fantasy roleplaying game, in which players are characters in an ongoing fantasy story. This new kind of game has become immensely popular over the years, and D&D has grown to include many new ways to vividly experience worlds of heroic fantasy.

With sprawling opportunities for storytelling, the game has had to make do with the fun 1980s cartoon series and the frankly awful 2000 film, which itself spawned a couple of straight-to-telly sequels. The rights to make a movie based on the title have passed through more than one studio's lot, including Warner Bros. which had reportedly been working on a version with Rob Letterman directing and Ansel Elgort potentially leading the cast. That's clearly failed a saving through and now Paramount is pushing ahead under the terms of its deal with Hasbro's AllSpark Pictures arm.

Goldstein and Daley have had their own frustrations of late, as they were attached for a while to write and direct the Flash movie for Warner Bros., which seemingly came to naught. Their take on the fantasy adventure would surely be spiced with a little comedy, though they've proven they can still find action and drama alongside it, especially in their Spider-Man: Homecoming script.
