With The Walking Dead still chomping its way through the competition, Gale Anne Hurd is now in the process of setting up other TV shows. And she seems committed to genre series: the prolific producer already has one about Area 51 bubbling in development, but is now targeting something even more alien with Horizon.

Written and co-produced by Burn Notice’s Bridget Tyler, Horizon will follow an FBI secretary during World War II who discovers that her husband may have been killed in a battle with a spaceship over the South Pacific.

She goes on a mission to uncover the truth and ends up becoming the one person standing between our world and an alien invasion. No pressure!

The show, which has been ordered to pilot (albeit with a cast-contingent clause that means they have to find bankable names to lead it) by the USA Network across the pond, marks the first time the company has made a sci-fi show since the end of The 4400 in 2007.

Hurd is also keeping busy on the film front, having produced Very Good Girls and shepherding such projects as Hellfest and The Nameless through the development channels.
