Even as she helps usher a fresh (probably the wrong word given the subject matter, but still…) batch of zombies on to the small screen while overseeing shooting on the second season of The Walking Dead, producer Gale Anne Hurd is not shying away from other horror projects. She’s attached to Hellfest for CBS Films.
William Penick and Chris Sey wrote the script, which is set at a Halloween theme park. The patrons all think they’re there to enjoy a safe but scary time, only to discover that one of the costumed characters is bent on slaughtering them. Demon in disguise? Disgruntled worker gone mad? We’ll have to wait and see.
The original idea sprang from the clearly warped noggin of Ben Roberts, who works at Hurd’s Valhalla Entertainment company and will be an executive producer on the film.
In related Hurd news, she’s also hatched a deal to produce Dead Man’s Run with Aspen comics, which Greg Pak will write. The story will refigure Hell as an underground prison for the dead, with the hero of the piece recruiting a team of the damned to free his innocent sister’s soul. Anyone want to bet it’ll be optioned as a film before too long?
