We might not have heard a lot about the next Planet Of The Apes film, but that’s because director Matt Reeves and co-writer Mark Bomback have been quietly working on the sequel to Dawn,** War Of The Planet Of The Apes**. Reeves is finally ready to start the casting process, with news arriving that Gabriel Chavarria has scored one of the lead roles.
Details are sketchy about what the film will cover, though if you watched Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes – and a lot of people did, hence the latest addition to the franchise – you know that (spoiler alert) after a conflict between the human survivors of the virus and Caesar’s (Andy Serkis) simian forces, a sort of truce was reached, one that was threatened by the coming of human reinforcements from outside San Francisco. We now know that Chavarria will be playing one of the main human characters in the film, though there’s no mention of whether Jason Clarke or any of the cast from Dawn will be back. Serkis, assuming he’s not too busy directing Jungle Book: Origins, is surely a lock to be returning to his key role.
Reeves will be headed to start shooting the film this October in Vancouver, so expect more casting announcements as the date approaches. Chavarria has worked on shows such East Los High for Hulu and Aquarius for NBC in the States, and is part of the cast for street car drama Low Riders, scheduled to arrive on screens next year.
