Furry Vengeance For Brendan Fraser

Until Inkheart crashed and burned at the US box office this weekend, it had been a pretty good twelve months for Brendan Fraser, who rediscovered a fair amount of box office pulling power with The Mummy: Tomb Of The Dragon Emperor and Journey To The Centre Of The Earth 3-D (in 3-D!!!).

And he’s already putting the disappointment of Inkheart behind him by signing on to star in the live-action family comedy, Furry Vengeance, for director Roger Kumble.

Fraser will play a real estate developer who goes to war with a bunch of furry creatures who get rather pissed off when his new housing development impinges upon their pristine Oregon forest.

OK, so it doesn’t sound entirely promising, but we’re hoping that Fraser’s easy charm will go a long way towards making this tolerable. And he has a decent track record with talking animal comedies (if, indeed, the animals do talk here), what with George Of The Jungle and the under-rated **Looney Tunes: Back In Action **both on his CV.

Michael Carnes and Josh Gilbert, writers of Mr. Woodcock, wrote the script. Summit Entertainment and Participant Media will bankroll the movie, which starts shooting in the summer.
