The first teaser for the new Angry Birds movie – to answer the predictably angry "why a sequel???" tweets: because the first one made money and it's still a known property – introduced us to the big threat of the movie, an entirely new character, Zeta, voiced by Leslie Jones. She'll be the reason our feathered heroes and their piggy nemeses have to join forces...
Zeta, you see, lives on an icy, isolated island and is sick and tired of everything ending up encased in the frozen stuff – or stolen by seals once it has defrosted. So her plan is to find somewhere else to live, making first contact (or possibly looking to wipe anyone else out) by flinging ice balls.
Which means that Red (Jason Sudeikis), Chuck (Josh Gad), Bomb (Danny McBride), and Mighty Eagle (Peter Dinklage) recruit Chuck’s sister Silver (Rachel Bloom) and team up with pigs Leonard (Bill Hader), his assistant Courtney (Awkwafina), and techpig Garry (Sterling K. Brown) to forge an unsteady truce and form an unlikely super-team to save their homes. Or die trying, given how inept this "super" team is.
Thurop Van Orman is in the director's slingshot for the sequel, and Angry Birds 2 will fly into UK cinemas on 4 October.
