Avatar veteran Laeta Kalogridis is overseeing the 10-episode initial run adapting Richard Morgan's award-scooping 2002 cyberpunk novel. Altered Carbon takes place in a future where the human mind can now be digitized, downloaded into a "cortical stack" and placed into new bodies, known as sleeves.
The series follows Envoy soldier Takeshi Kovacs (Joel Kinnaman, sharing the role with Will Yun Lee), who is brought back to life centuries later to investigate the attempted murder of Laurens Bancroft (James Purefoy), the wealthiest man on Earth. As the investigation progresses, Kovacs comes to learn that his past isn’t nearly as buried as he thought...
There was apparently a pricey cost attached to the show, and it all appears to be up on the screen. The entire first season will be up on Netflix on 2 February.
