Looks like we might be in for another round of duelling biopics. This time, the subject is Jeff Buckley, best known for his 1994 album Grace and his cover of Hallelujah, which is still considered the definitive version, and is so ubiquitous it’s even cropped up in Shrek.

Writer-director Brian Jun, who nabbed a nomination for the Best Jury Prize for his film Steel City at this year’s Sundance Festival, has been hired to write and direct a biopic of Buckley, which will follow his initial success and his tragic drowning in Tennessee in 1997.

But there could be competition from writer-producer Train Houston, who the rights to Entertainment Weekly critic David Browne’s book Dream Brother: The Lives & Music Of Jeff & Tim Buckley.
