The film adaptation of must-see West End / Broadway play Frost/Nixon is still gathering steam, with the news today that a rather talented supporting cast have signed on to join original stars Michael Sheen (as David Frost) and Frank Langella (as Richard Nixon) in this tale of the historic interviews between David Frost and Richard Nixon following the latter's resignation from office.
Yup, the good news is that Sam Rockwell, Matthew Macfadyen and Toby Jones have signed up to join the central pair in Ron Howard's film adaptation. Rockwell will play James Reston Jr, the journalist and researcher who helped Frost prepare for the interviews; Macfadyen will play journalist John Burt and Jones Swifty Lazar, the legendary Hollywood agent who negotiated an incredibly lucrative deal with Frost on behalf of Nixon.
This casting is another good sign that the film could be as riveting as its stage predecessor. At one point Howard was rumoured to be considering bigger names in the leads (Warren Beatty as Nixon, for example) but having gone with Langella and Sheen (both excellent in the roles) he now seems to be going for quality over star power right down the line.
Shooting's due to start late this summer, so if you want to see it before next year head to Broadway and buy tickets.
