Back in 1988, Gary Hart was a promising presidential candidate in the USA – he had a way of making politics engaging, he connected with people, and he looked set to change America for the better. Except, it didn't turn out that way – instead his campaign self-destructed in a sex scandal that sent him crashing out of the race. Now Hart’s story is the focus of The Front Runner from director Jason Reitman (making quick work of following up this summer’s Tully), exploring the man, his actions, the role of the media, and whether the personal life of a politician should undermine the potential good that they could do in office. Empire has an exclusive early look at the film's international trailer – watch it here.
Playing Hart in the centre of the meltdown is Hugh Jackman, already attracting Oscar buzz for his portrayal, with Vera Farmiga, JK Simmons, Alfred Molina and more among the cast. Here's a new poster:
The Front Runner will arrive in UK cinemas on 11 January 2019.
