Dating these days can be tough. There’s the endless swiping, unexpected ghosting, non-stop small talk – and for Noa, Daisy Edgar-Jones’ character in Fresh, an encounter with an obnoxious bro in a scarf who has the audacity to tell her she’d look better wearing a dress. And that’s before she has a supermarket meat-cute with charming stranger Steve (Sebastian Stan), and ventures on a romantic getaway with him that seems to take a dark, violent turn – as shown in the new trailer for the film. Have a watch below:

We don’t know quite what’s in store for Noa once she gets to know Steve better, but judging by the glimpses of a drug-induced haze, some kind of flesh being pumped through a meat mincer and the impeccable use of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs track ‘Heads Will Roll’, chances are it’s not good. Written by Lauryn Kahn and the directorial debut for Mimi Cave, Fresh was a Sundance smash hit, and the energetic tone of the trailer promises an appetising (gulp) blend of genres and an incisive allegorical look at modern romance. It’s one of the first major roles for Edgar-Jones after her star-making performance as Marianne in Sally Rooney adaptation Normal People – and as for Stan, between this and his current balls-to-the-wall commitment to playing Tommy Lee in Pam & Tommy, he seems to be revelling in breaking out of the MCU mould for a while.

Fresh will be released on Disney+ in the UK and Hulu in the US on 4 March 2022.
