It might not see Ryan Reynolds slipping back into Deadpool's threads, but from the looks of the first trailer for Free Guy, we can expect plenty of the meta quippery he's all but turned into a personal brand.

The film, directed by Shawn Levy, sees Reynolds as Guy, a man who has what he seems a perfectly mundane, ordinary life working as a bank teller. But then he starts to realise that he's actually an NPC – a Non-Player Character in a massive violent, no-holds barred video game.

And with that revelation comes the knowledge that maybe he can be more than anyone assumed – a hero. It won't be easy, though, even with Jodie Comer's action heroine to help out. Add to that the fact that Taika Waititi appears to be mixing things up as a villain.

With Stranger Things' Joe Keery and Get Out's Lil Rel Howery also in the cast, Free Guy will be out in the UK on 1 July. If you didn't see it, the riff-heavy teaser for the trailer can be found here for the low, low price of one click.
