Like many movies, Free Guy has seen its release date pushed several times. Unlike many movies, it has an entire joke PR campaign about the constant shifting. Now, finally, it appears that its August date will stick, so there's a new trailer out featuring Ryan Reynolds, Jodie Comer and Taika Waititi, among others.
Directed by Shawn Levy, Free Guy finds Reynolds as Guy, an unassuming bank teller in a very odd city where violence seems to break out all the time – something its citizens seemingly take for granted. Turns out, Guy is an NPC – a non-player character – in a sprawling crime video game. When he meets "Molotov Girl" (AKA Milly, a gamer played by Comer), he falls for her and learns the truth.
Yet as Guy tries his hand at being a hero, he has an effect on the game, much to the dismay of its creator, Antoine (Waititi). There are definite Truman Show vibes here, along with a touch of Ready Player One.
Joe Keery, Lil Rel Howery and Utkarsh Ambudkar are also among the cast, with the film now due on 13 August.
