Director John Frankenheimer, the man responsible for cinematic greats such as Birdman of Alcatraz and The Manchurian Candidate died this weekend in Los Angeles. The multi-award-winning director's career spanned career heights which saw his films win countless awards, to an all-time low in 1997 when he was nominated for a Razzie for the dreadful Island of Dr Moreau. Frankenheimer's collaboration with Burt Lancaster saw him make five movies with the actor, including The Young Savages and Birdman of Alcatraz
