Franka Potente has proved that she can run, make a decent girlfriend for Matt Damon’s Jason Bourne (well, at least until that unfortunate incident with the sniper’s bullet and the jeep crash) and deal with lurking tube nasties.
But next she’ll be faking her way to the highest levels of the Catholic faith. Talk about a career topper… She’s been cast in Pope Joan, an adaptation of Donna Cross’ novel about a 9th century woman who takes on the guise of a man and ends up rising through the male ranks of the Vatican until she’s named the new pontiff.
Cross’ book has been a huge seller, particularly in Germany, so it’s no surprise that Constantin Film would be gearing up to make it into a movie. The Tin Drum’s Volker Schloendorff will crank the cameras next May.
