After his departure from The Walking Dead and the brief lifespan of Mob City, it’s good to have some positive Frank Darabont news to share, and on the cinematic front, too. He’s jumped from a shortlist of directors to become Universal’s choice to make the follow-up to **Snow White And The Huntsman.
The 2012 fantasy adventure handily won the box office battle with **Mirror Mirror **in terms of bringing a live-action Snow White story to the screen. But the next step has been stalled in development for a while. It's been in need of a new director since Hunts-man Rupert Sanders decided to drop out of any sequel. From the sounds of it, early rumours that this will head in a Snow-free direction appear to be panning out, with this now likely to become more a spin-off than a sequel.
No script has been set, so Kristen Stewart could still return in some capacity as the heroic fairy tale princess, but it seems the studio is looking to capitalize on Chris Hemsworth’s post-Avengers popularity. According to The Wrap’s story, Charlize Theron may also return as the evil queen. Either way, Universal wants it ready for a 2016 release date, so Darabont – assuming his deal works out – will be in charge of getting the thing ready pretty quickly.
If you ask us, they could really make this revolutionary and have the main character discover a love for racing in the final act; then the third film can combine forces with another previous Hemsworth role and be called T****he Hunt-Man. Right? Wait, is that our coats calling? We'll just go then.
