You probably already know that we're eagerly anticipating the arrival of the Good Omens TV adaptation, particularly since it has one of the cult novel's original writers, Neil Gaiman, running the show. The author-turned-producer took the opportunity at Friday's San Diego Comic-Con to announce one more piece of casting for the series: Frances McDormand will voice God.
The series, which is based on the apocalyptic novel from Gaiman and the late, lamented Terry Pratchett, promises to be by turns dark, philosophical and barkingly funny, if the source material is any indication. Angel Aziraphale and demon Crowley have got rather fond of Earth and are thusly annoyed to discover that the Antichrist is going to show up and bring it to an end.
McDormand joins a cast that includes the likes of David Tennant, Michael Sheen, Jon Hamm, Nick Offerman and Michael McKean, with Douglas Mackinnon directing all the episodes. McDormand feels like a great choice for the Almighty, though of course we don't know what form her character will take. Perhaps she'll simply be a voice...
Prime Video also put out a behind-the-scenes video of the show, which is now in the editing phase, ready for a 2019 release. We did have to chuckle at Tennant saying he's never worked on a show like this before, given his experience on a little show called Doctor Who...
