Though Daniel Cudmore has played the character since 2003’s X2, it would appear that Fox is going in a new direction for steely X-Men hero Colossus in Deadpool. The actor hit Twitter to announce the decision (as reported by Coming Soon) today.
In a report about Gina Carano joining the cast of the new movie about the Merc with a Mouth, it was also revealed that Colossus would be cropping up in the film, which led to speculation that Cudmore could be back, having most recently appeared in X-Men: Days Of Future Past. Cudmore himself, however, has appeared to confirm that he’ll be replaced, at least for Deadpool. “Thanks everyone for all the support for me to reprise the role of Colossus in Deadpool but unfortunately it won't be happening for me,” he said. “I've had a blast playing such an awesome character over the years! Deadpool will be kick-ass with Tim Miller and Ryan Reynolds.”
Miller is preparing to shoot the new film this March in Vancouver with Reynolds, Carano and T.J. Miller cast so far, working from a script by Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese. Deadpool currently boasts a February 12, 2016 release date.
