Paul Greengrass’ Flight 93 – based on the true events that occurred on the ill-fated flight on September 11 – might be a uniquely American tale, but it’s being shot in the UK.

Greengrass and his crew have set up at Pinewood studios, and he’ll shoot a semi-improvised story about what happened both on the plane and on the ground. The plot unspools in real-time between the time the aircraft took off and the crash that occurred after the passengers overpowered the terrorists.

"9/11 was unique - the most important event of our lifetime, casting a shadow over all our futures," Greengrass told Variety. "It's vital for cinema to begin the task of exploring what it meant, and what it continues to mean today. Hopefully, Flight 93 will be a worthy contribution to that process."

A large ensemble cast is on board, but the producers won’t name starring roles out of respect for those who died.
