Though Fleabag creator and star Phoebe Waller-Bridge had previously said that things were looking good for more of the show, we've had to wait until now to have a proper confirmation. But good news! The series will indeed return.

Speaking at the Edinburgh International Television Festival, Waller-Bridge announced the new series and said, "Series 2 will be a whole new adventure and I’m beyond thrilled to be coming back." Fleabag was a definite highlight of last year's TV, adapting the writer's award-winning stage play and itself scoring six BAFTA TV awards back in May. Waller-Bridge won Best Female Performance, a richly-deserved triumph.

Her character, a wry, cash-poor, porn-watching and grief-hit woman living and loving – well, sort of – in London, while dealing with the fallout of a tragedy, was one of the great new creations of our time, so we're happy to have both of them back. There was no announcement of when the show will return to screens here in the UK (where it was commissioned for BBC Three) or the US (where it is carried by Amazon), but hopefully it won't be too long to wait.

Waller-Bridge has been in demand of late, winning a role in the Han Solo Star Wars spin-off film and starting work on thriller TV series Killing Eve.
