Fleabag, Game Of Thrones, Mrs. Maisel And More Score At The 2019 Emmys

Fleabag, Game Of Thrones and Marvelous Mrs. Maisel at the Emmys 2019

There were the usual huge beasts dominating the nominee field (hello, Game Of Thrones' record haul), but this year's Emmy ceremony was also one of those expectations being dashed. Thrones, for example, made do with a sprinkling of wins, with categories filled by its cast or creatives going to other series (Ozark's Julie Gardner and Jason Bateman, for example). Despite everything, The One With All The Dragons did manage to win the big drama award for its final season, while Peter Dinklage scored another trophy for his work.

The Emmys show followed the trend of going host-free, with very mixed results and some excruciatingly awkward banter bits as per usual, though it did end on time, which was something. And amongst a batch of repeat winners (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel did well), there were some nice surprises, including Pose's Billy Porter, When They See Us' Jharrel Jerome and Succession's writing team, led by creator Jesse Armstrong.

Jodie Comer won over co-star Sandra Oh for Killing Eve (and amusingly shouted out her parents, who she didn't have attend because she didn't think it was "her time"), while Chernobyl took home several statuettes. The night's biggest winner, though, was Fleabag and anyone who enjoys Phoebe Waller-Bridge being slightly overcome with her show's success.
