It’s taken a long, long time for Warner Bros to get DC’s The Flash movie up and running – let alone at lightning speed. But after years of development it’s finally a go, with Ezra Miller reprising his role as the super-speedy Barry Allen, and IT director Andy Muschietti behind the camera. In fact, it was the filmmaker who confirmed that the movie has started shooting, sharing a video on Instagram with the official Flash logo and a simple message: “Here we go!!! THE FLASH Day 1. #TheFlashMovie”
While The Flash will be a solo adventure for Miller’s character, introduced properly in Justice League, it does sound like the film is planned as the DCEU’s way to officially introduce or explore its stream-crossing multiverse – perhaps establishing some kind of continuity between its fractured timeline and other incarnations of DC characters, while also propelling more future Extended Universe adventures. (Coming down the DCEU pipeline are Black Adam, Aquaman 2, and Shazam! Fury Of The Gods, as well as this summer’s The Suicide Squad.)
Speaking of connecting various DC universes together, there’s a fresh report from The Wrap indicating that Michael Keaton will indeed be a part of The Flash, reprising his iconic role of Batman from Tim Burton’s original Batman and its sequel Batman Returns. While Keaton’s Bat has long been reported as a potential ingredient in Muschietti’s film, a recent interview indicated that the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic might have put paid to those plans. But The Wrap reports that Keaton’s talent agency, ICM Partners, has confirmed he will be in the movie after all.
If all goes to plan, The Flash will be sprinting our way on 4 November 2022.
