Wow, these are pretty tasty. The official Watchmen site has just released five character images from the upcoming film, a good year before the film is actually released. And, in the words of somebody still living in the late nineties, they are sweeeet!
For those who are still not especially well acquainted with the graphic novel, these characters are The Comedian (played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan, and the man whose demise kicks off the events of the book/film); Nite Owl (a technical whizz with depressive tendencies, played by Patrick Wilson); Ozymandias (an arrogant, extraordinary athlete whose turned himself into a brand to make millions, played by Matthew Goode); Rorschach (played by Jackie Earle Haley, he's kind of our hero, despite being a slightly insane detective who wears a mask to hide his identity at all times); and Silk Spectre (played by Malin Akerman, she's the only girl of the group, and none too happy about that and would rather not be a crime fighter anyway).

We assume that they're still holding back on the first image of Dr Manhattan (Billy Crudup) because he's big, bald, blue and naked and is probably going to require a fair bit of CG enhancement and some way to hide his winkie from nervous eyes.
The design team have done an amazing job of keeping these characters true to their appearance in the book, while updating them enough that they look heroic and modern, rather than as comical as they might have. Rorschach is almost exactly as he appears in the comic, but the rest are sleeker and shinier. Silk Spectre's outfit was not nearly so kinky in the book.
We could not love these more. What do you think?
