Though no official pronouncements have been made and deals are apparently still being hammered out in the Mos Eisley Cantina, it's looking ever more likely that Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford and now Carrie Fisher will return to their iconic Star Wars roles. Fisher is the latest to comment, appearing to confirm that she’ll be back as Leia.
Of course, Star Wars fans have been in this asteroid field before, and while she's said she'd be happy to return, the last time Fisher made such statements her representatives were quick to retract them and dismiss it as the star being flippant and funny.
But, talking to that always-reliable source of movie information the, er, Palm Beach Illustrated, she was once more asked point blank if she was coming back for more Wars and answered in the affirmative.
So how will she appear? “Elderly,” laughs Fisher. “She’s in an intergalactic old folks’ home. I just think she would be just like she was before, only slower and less inclined to be up for the big battle.”
If – and it’s still if until that big announcement comes from Disney, Lucasfilm and Bad Robot – she is back, we hope writer Michael Arndt gives her the ol’ sharp tongue we’ve come to know and love about Leia and the woman who plays her. After all, what’s Star Wars without her slinging insults? A scruffy-lookin' nerfherder, that's what.
