After plenty of teasers on social media (Dwayne Johnson in action there, as ever), the first proper trailers – an the US example and a subtly different international variant – for Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle are now online.
The story finds four teens (Alex Wolff's Spencer, Madison Iseman's Bethany, Ser'Darius Blain's Anthony "Fridge" Johnson and Morgan Turner's Martha) in trouble at school for various minor infractions. Assigned to clear out a junk-strewn basement, they stumble upon a video game version of Jumanji and give it a go, only to find themselves transported into the jungle environs as their avatars.
Johnson ramps up his usual blend of action cockiness and comic vulnerability to play Dr. Smolder Bravestone, with Karen Gillan as typical video game female avatar Ruby Roundhouse, Kevin Hart as Moose Finbar (alert: short jokes ahead!) and Jack Black (as Bethany's confused stand-in, Professor Shelly Oberon). Together, they'll have to learn to survive...
It would appear to be an interesting tweak on adapting Chris Van Allsburg's book, first brought to life by the 1995 original film. Part re-working, part sequel, Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle will need to prove it can offer something truly fresh, but does look like it could be fun.
Directed by Jake Kasdan, the movie will be out on 26 December.
